Celebrate National Fitness Day by joining the ‘Empower Half Hour’ with Sanofi at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre (27.09.13)

National Fitness Day UK is this Friday, 27 October and is a nationwide event that has been running for three years now and is backed by partners Change4Life, ukactive, the énergie Group and local business Sanofi. Activities take place up and down the country with the énergie Group opening its doors to the public across its 100 clubs and 2,000 members of the Sanofi network will be taking part in fundraising and fitness activities. Money raised will be going to the Teenage Cancer Trust which is the only UK charity dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young people with cancer aged between 13 and 24.

The aim of the National Fitness Day is to become the biggest nationally celebrated fitness-focussed day of the year and invites the population to join in the ‘Empower Half Hour’ at 1pm by doing 30 minutes of fun activities and exercise. And so in Guildford there will be a free event open to all ages at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in partnership with healthcare company Sanofi.

Ian O’Hare from the Sanofi Communications Team had these words to say “As a major healthcare company we are acutely aware of the health benefits an active lifestyle can offer. The ‘Empower Half Hour’ event organised with our friends at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, here in Guildford, will demonstrate that being active can also be fun, as well as healthy. No matter what age or how much exercise you do you can take part, so please do come along on the day.”

The event itself will combine combat, stretch and stamina in an aim to raise your overall fitness and stamina through moves, stretches and Body combat in this empowering 30 minute workout. Just remember to wear comfortable clothes and a pair of trainers! On top of this the kind people at the Yvonne Arnaud will also be running a free draw where you have the chance to win tickets to the show of your choice (subject to availability).

The Funding Officer at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Paige Sinkler, also added, “We are delighted to work with our valued corporate sponsor Sanofi to promote health and well-being in the local community through National Fitness Day. The Theatre is truly a resource for all, so it is especially pleasing to make the most of the space we have to offer local companies and events.”

It was estimated that over 6,000 people took part on the day last year and ran events to inspire the public to get into shape. These people were also supporting the event’s charity, Teenage Cancer Trust by raising money to help support young people diagnosed with cancer across the UK. That money has helped in aiding the charity fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff. This in turn has helped to bring young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them and your support this year could make all the difference.

At the same time as improving your fitness you can also help teenagers affected by cancer by texting FIT to 70300, with texts costing £3 (plus the cost of a standard message) and all money goes to Teenage Cancer Trust! Alternatively why not get yourself sponsored to take part in something more challenging!
