Welcome to Rebecca Symonds seasonal fashion blog, this week discussing her preparation in June for the upcoming winter… Rebecca is locally born and bred and runs a business called Rebecca’s Room Knitting where you can buy handmade knitwear. She has been sewing since her mother would trust her with sharp objects and this started an interest in fashion at a young age. Locally educated, Rebecca studied at University College of the Arts in Farnham, however, in her early thirties she suffered a stroke and woke up paralysed down one side, unable to talk. As part of her rehabilitation she took up knitting and hasn’t stopped click-clacking since! She gets her inspiration from looking at people in the street, long country walks with her dog and the necessity of keeping warm whilst living in a cold rural cottage!
It feels like we haven’t seen each other in ages! I must apologise for that, I’ve been working hard on setting up my own WEBSITE for showcasing knitted loveliness and vintage haberdashery. If you go take a look, there’s even a free knitting pattern for a headband (as shown in the photo above). Get started now and you’ll have a head start on the Christmas prezzies!
I know Christmas seems a long way away, but us designer-makers are already getting our collections together for the winter. It is a bit tricky getting into the festive mood during blazing sunshine and the 26 degree heat Guildford has been enjoying lately, but I manage it somehow.
The big designers get their collections ready even earlier. It looks like the woodland trend is set to continue, Dolce and Gabbana showed a stunning cape on the catwalk earlier this year. It’s something I can relate to as I live in the woods and find them a constant source of inspiration. Mix that in with a bit of folky wistfulness and I’m away with the fairies!
I’m working on a capsule collection of knitted accessories for release in September 2014. I have rough preliminary sketches of ideas (like shown below) and am collecting materials like a squirrel! I must dash, the knitting needles are calling… I just need to find a way to stop the midges biting.
