Kelly’s Charity Riverside Run (12.10.14)

Kelly’s Charity Riverside Run takes place in Guildford on Sunday 12 October and will be held along the banks of the beautiful River Wey. There will be a 5k walk and a 10k run, set in the little known Riverside Park, one of Guildford’s best hidden secrets; going through fields and meadows, testing the fittest and fastest of runners, whilst remaining safe for those less experienced with off road running.

Kelly’s Charity Events are run by the UK storage company specialists and are entirely paid for by the Kelly’s Family, with all money raised going to local charities. The first event they ever ran made £30,000 and so far the company has raised over £180,000 for charities local to its branches up and down the country. They are aiming to increase that by another £20,000 this year and the Riverside Run will surely contribute hugely to that.

This event, in its fifth year, supports Challengers, a local charity which provides play and leisure for disabled children and young people at a variety of schemes across Surrey, Hampshire and the surrounding areas. Challengers unique, non exclusion policy means that they will always find a way to support young people aged 2-25, no matter what their impairment.

Challengers offer a place to relax, make friends and challenge impairments through a variety of activities. Secondary to this, it gives parents and families a short break from what can be a constant cycle of care, knowing their loved ones are safe, having fun and receiving the support they require. Challengers rely heavily on donations and fundraising and over the past four years, Kelly’s Charity Events have raised over £100,000 for this wonderful charity.

Challengers

Mady Hatton of Challengers says, “We really can’t thank Kelly’s Charity Events enough. As a local charity we wouldn’t have the budget to put on an event this size for our supporters. But through the support of Kelly’s charity events, we have been able to reach a whole new group of supporters and in turn support more local disabled children and their families.”

David Martin, owner of Kelly’s Storage and his wife, Moira Martin who is a Director started these charity events five years ago to help make a difference in the community. David said, “We see Kelly’s Charity Events as an innovative model of how a business can grow profitably by helping their community and simultaneously creating a fun and inspirational workplace for their staff.”

Both Moira and David are passionate about their initiative, often taking it upon themselves to enter the runs, walks and cycle rides. For the last cycle challenge in Farnham, David completed the 45 mile hilly route on a heavy Barclays Boris bike without a bead of sweat. Dressed in a smart suit adorned with a re-enforced custom made bowler hat, he was a magnificent sight cycling the Surrey hills in high winds!

The run will be professionally organised and is designed to be family friendly, with a brilliant atmosphere guaranteed. Every penny raised, including registration money, goes directly to Challengers and with entertaining activities, refreshments and on-site parking, the event will be a great day out for all!
