Whitehouse Food & Drink

The White House

The White House sits proudly at the bottom of Guildford’s High Street with a great location overlooking the River Wey in central Guildford. The pub is named after the famous White House in Washington in which the President of the United States lives due to its white washed walls and pillared entrance. Although you are unlikely to see Obama, Reagan, Bush or Clinton here, the sign hanging outside does depict its grander and larger brother with the same name.

There is a large outside, heated seating terrace that faces out over the river. Although it lies slightly in the shade of a great overhanging Guildford willow, this simply helps in adding character to the outdoor experience you get at The White House. There is also a spectacular outside spiral staircase providing a connection between the terrace and an upstairs balcony which gives even better views over our fine town.

The White House is a traditional British pub serving outstanding Fullers cask ales and delicious food, with a wide choice of quality wines and spirits. They serve London Pride, ESB and Seafarers all year round, with additional, regularly changing seasonal ales too and serve up classic pub favourites such as fish & chips, toad in the hole and 28 day aged Hampshire sirloin steak. There are also a selection of daily specials, a separate summer menu including freshly prepared salads and a mouthwatering festive menu for Christmas.

The pub can take private bookings for their mezzanine area that seats up to 14 people if you are looking for a more secluded soiree. It has a sophisticated interior with a beautiful wooden staircase inside and the free wifi and comfy sofas make it an ideal place to log on at any time of the day. With its warm, family-friendly atmosphere, this is an unlikely place to find big groups of students, more realistically you will find the slightly older crowd who are looking for a great, centrally located pub where they can relax and enjoy the ambience.
